Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Rashawn Slater is currently dealing with a high ankle sprain, which he sustained during the team’s recent game against the Seahawks in Seattle. Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed the injury and mentioned that the team is contemplating whether Slater should be placed on injured reserve, which would mean a minimum absence of four games.
Slater’s injury occurred in the fourth quarter of what ended up being a 30-23 defeat for the Chargers. Following the game, Slater was seen with a walking boot on his injured right foot and relying on crutches for mobility. This injury comes after Slater missed the entire previous season due to a patellar tendon rupture.
The timing is particularly challenging for Slater, who just last year signed a significant four-year contract extension worth $114 million. This season, his performance had seen him ranked as one of the lesser effective tackles in the league in terms of pass block win rate before his injury.
Compounding the Chargers’ woes, several other team members also suffered injuries in the same game, affecting the team’s overall performance severely. The loss against the Seahawks saw the Chargers using a make-shift offensive line predominantly comprised of rookies during the final drives, a setup that may continue given the injury circumstances.
